Learning the ins and outs of habitat requirements

The featured speaker is Maureen Frank, Ph.D., James A. “Buddy” Davidson Charitable Foundation Endowed Professor and associate professor of conservation biology at Sul Ross University, Alpine.

Frank said the migratory journeys made by many bird species are the energetic equivalent of running numerous consecutive marathons, so they need access to resources such as food and shelter along the way.

Texas is located in the Central Flyway and hosts roughly 2 billion birds along their annual passage.

“We will discuss different types of bird migration and how you can manage your land, or even your backyard, to help birds make a successful journey,” Frank said.

On the agenda

Key webinar topics will include:

  • How to evaluate a space and choose target bird species.
  • How to improve the food, water and shelter provided by your space.
  • Where to learn more about the bird species that will benefit from habitat creation and improvement.
