Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service experts will host a “More Bass, Less Grass,” workshop from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. on March 24 at Broussard Farm, 10714 E. Clubb Road, Beaumont.

The cost is $75 and includes lunch and light refreshments. Participants will also receive a printed or USB copy of workshop materials. Advanced registration is required at https://tx.ag/MoreBassLessGrass.
The workshop is hosted by the Texas A&M Department of Rangeland, Wildlife and Fisheries Management and the AgriLife Extension office in Jefferson County.
It offers five continuing education units for current Texas Department of Agriculture pesticide license holders — three general, one integrated pest management, and one laws and regulations.
Workshop to cover key pond management topics
Educational presentations will be delivered by Todd Sink, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension aquaculture specialist and associate professor in the Department of Rangeland, Wildlife and Fisheries Management, and Brittany Chesser, AgriLife Extension aquatic vegetation program specialist and lead diagnostic scientist at AgriLife Extension’s Aquatic Diagnostics Laboratory. Both Sink and Chesser are located in Bryan-College Station.
Nikki Fitzgerald, AgriLife Extension coastal and marine resources agent in Jefferson County, will also be a speaker.
Chesser said the materials covered during the workshop are applicable for both new and experienced pond owners.
Specific topics include:

- Strategies and regulations related to aquatic vegetation management.
- Using herbivorous fish as an integrated pest management strategy.
- Pond site selection for improved water and vegetation management.

Chesser said the event will also include pondside electrofishing demonstrations.
