The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will host the 2024 North Texas Pest Management Conference on Jan. 23 in Sherman.

The North Texas Pest Management Conference held on Jan. 23 in Sherman will allow participants to learn the latest in pest management techniques and updates to laws and regulations. (Texas A&M AgriLife photo by Chad Cummings.)

The event will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Sherman Municipal Ballroom, 405 N. Rusk St. Registration starts at 8 a.m., and the program will begin at 8:30 a.m. The conference registration fee is $100. To register, visit https://tx.ag/NTXPestMangementConf.

Lunch is included in the registration cost, and there are five Texas Department of Agriculture structural and five agricultural continuing education units available.

Conference goal

“The goal of the conference is to provide TDA license holders with an opportunity to get required annual CEUs for both agricultural licenses and structural pest licenses close to home in North Texas,” Cummings said.

The speakers and topics will be:

  • Pasture pest management with integrated pest management – Sonja Swiger, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension entomologist and professor in the Texas A&M Department of Entomology, Stephenville.
  • Lawns vs. trees: How to keep both healthy and happy – Brad Voss, AgriLife Extension horticulture agent in Collin County.
  • Drift minimization agents in agriculture and lawn applications: An overview of BMPs – Cummings and Colton Spencer, Corteva Agriscience range and pasture specialist, Sherman.
  • Industry updates – Structural and agriculture pest industry partners.
  • Laws and regulations updates for ag and structural pests – Don Renchie, Ph.D., professor and AgriLife Extension specialist and program leader for the Agricultural and Environmental Safety Unit, Bryan-College Station.
  • Managing invasive species with integrated pest management in the urban sprawl environment – Cummings.
  • Ectoparasite control in livestock – Swiger.
  • Understanding the updated structural pest control service rules for wood destroying insects – Janet Hurley, AgriLife Extension senior integrated pest management program specialist, Dallas.
  • Pasture and fenceline weed and brush control – Ron Courtney, Envu area sales manager, Georgetown.
