O.D. Butler Field Day will be on May 17 in Franklin
Featured topics will be Right to Farm Act, forage trials, commodity market updates
The O.D. Butler Field Day is scheduled May 17 at the Camp Cooley Division of the Circle X Land and Cattle Company in Franklin.
The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service offices in Robertson, Brazos, Burleson, Falls, Grimes, Leon, Limestone, Madison, McLennan, Milam and Washington counties will be hosting the event.
The field day will be held at the ranch, 4297 Camp Cooley Ranch Road. Registration begins at 8 a.m. at the sale headquarters, and the program will run from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. A lunch will be provided, and sponsor booths will be available.

There will be three Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units available — one laws and regulations unit and two general units — for private pesticide applicator license holders.
Morning field day tour stop topics
There will be three morning tours that participants will be able to view with each stop lasting about 45 minutes.

- Pre-emergent herbicide trial — Zach Howard, AgriLife Extension program specialist, Bryan-College Station; Barron Rector, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension range specialist and associate professor in the Department of Rangeland, Wildlife and Fisheries Management, Bryan-College Station; and Scott Nolte, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension state weed specialist and associate professor in the Department of Soil and Crop Sciences, Bryan-College Station.
- Urea N fertilizer rate trial — Tony Provin, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension soil chemist and professor in the Department of Soil and Crop Sciences, and director of the Soil, Water and Forage Testing Laboratory at Texas A&M University.
- Liming material differences and their effectiveness — Vanessa Corriher Olson, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension forage specialist and professor in the Department of Soil and Crop Sciences, Overton.
After the tours, participating farm equipment dealers will be giving a brief update about the latest on new farm equipment and technology available to producers.

- Laws and regulations affecting pesticide applicators — Don Renchie, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension pesticide safety program coordinator in the Agricultural and Environmental Safety Unit, Bryan-College Station.
- Right to Farm Act — Melissa Hamilton, Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association government affairs policy coordinator, Fort Worth.
- Market update — David Anderson, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension livestock marketing economist and professor in the Department of Agricultural Economics, Bryan-College Station.
