The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will host the Owning Your Piece of Texas: Key Laws Landowners Need to Know workshop Aug. 26 in San Marcos.

The workshop will be from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Pauline Espinosa Community Hall, 170 Charles Austin Drive. Cost is $75 and interested persons can register at https://tx.ag/OYPTSanMarcos.

The event is geared toward those who currently own land or are interested in becoming a landowner in Texas. The program discusses various laws that landowners need to know, including eminent domain, landowner liability and tax laws.

Seven Texas Real Estate Commission continuing education hours will be available to real estate agents upon completion of the workshop. No Texas Department of Agriculture pesticide applicator CEU credits will be offered. A lunch will be provided.

The topics include:

  • Eminent domain — Luke Ellis, attorney, Marrs, Ellis and Hodge, Austin.
  • Landowner liability — Tiffany Lashmet, J.D., AgriLife Extension specialist and associate professor in the Texas A&M Department of Agricultural Economics, Amarillo.
  • Fence law — Lashmet.
  • Water law — Jim Bradbury, attorney, James D. Bradbury PLLC, Austin.
  • Special use tax valuation — Blake Bennett, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension economist and associate professor in the Department of Agricultural Economics, Dallas.
  • Wildlife management valuation — Plateau Land and Wildlife Management, Austin.
