The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and the Hill Country Master Gardeners will host the seventh annual Plantastic Vegetable Gardening Seminar on Feb. 21 in Fredericksburg.

The event will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the AgriLife Extension office for Gillespie County, 38 Business Court. 

Registration is $45 with lunch or $35 without lunch. Online registration is available at https://tx.ag/Plantastic until Feb. 19. Walk-in registration on the day of the event is $35 with no lunch. 

About the event

The event is applicable to both new gardeners who want to learn how to start growing vegetables and experienced vegetable gardeners who will be exposed to the latest trends in growing. 

The event is also open to both organic and conventional gardening types. 

Seminar sessions and topics

The program will consist of two general sessions led by Skip Richter, retired AgriLife Extension horticulture agent, Brazos County, who will speak on vegetable garden nutrition.

The afternoon will consist of breakout sessions where attendees can choose from the following topics.

  • Basic Tomatoes.
  • Advanced Tomato Growing.
  • Vegetable Diseases to Dismiss or Dread.
  • Herbs.
  • Gardening 101.
  • Gardening With Chickens.
  • Raised Bed Gardening.
  • Perennial Vegetables: Harvest Forever?
  • Attracting Beneficial Insects to Your Garden.
