The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will host a free prescribed fire workshop on Aug. 1 in Palo Pinto from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will host a free prescribed fire workshop on Aug. 1 in Palo Pinto from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (Texas A&M Forest Service)

Registration is required online at https://tx.ag/PPPFW. Lunch will be provided. The workshop will be held at the AgriLife Extension office for Palo Pinto County, 221 S. 5th Ave.

Working in partnership with the local Prescribed Burn Association, the workshop is designed for individuals interested in restoring native habitats, reducing wildfire risks and connecting with a supportive community dedicated to responsible prescribed burning.

About the workshop

During the workshop, participants will learn hands-on techniques, safety protocols and the science behind prescribed burns, enabling them to confidently steward their land and restore native habitats. 

The workshop agenda will cover: 

  • Understanding prescribed fire and its benefits.
  • Overview of the North Texas Prescribed Burn Association.
  • Livestock grazing and prescribed fire.
  • Planning and conducting a prescribed burn.
