Rolling Plains Field Day scheduled for Sept. 19 in Vernon
Three general continuing education units offered to participants
The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service Rolling Plains Agronomy Program is holding its Rolling Plains Field Day on Sept. 19 in Vernon.
Participants will meet at the Wilbarger Auditorium, 2100 Yamparika St., Vernon. Then, they will be bussed to the Texas A&M AgriLife Research Smith-Walker Research Unit and the AgriLife Research Station at Lockett.

Three Texas Department of Agriculture general continuing education units will be offered.
Session topics
The first stop on the tour will be from 8-10:30 a.m. at the Smith-Walker Research Unit, where presenters and topics discussed will include:
- Regenerative agriculture practices for the Texas Rolling Plains, Paul DeLaune, Ph.D., Texas A&M AgriLife Research environmental soil scientist, Regents Professor and Faculty Fellow, Texas A&M Department of Soil and Crop Sciences, Vernon.
- Carbon, water and greenhouse gases in semiarid environments, Katie Lewis, Ph.D., associate professor; Christopher Cobos, senior research associate, and Nick Boogades, student assistant, Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center at Lubbock Lewis Lab.
- Integrated cropland and pasture-based beef production in the Southern Great Plains, Bill Pinchak, Ph.D., professor, Texas A&M Department of Rangeland, Wildlife and Fisheries Management, Vernon.
- Long-term effects of regenerative agricultural practices on water conservation, water quality and soil carbon, Srinivasulu Ale, Ph.D., professor, Texas A&M Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering, Vernon.
Topics at the AgriLife Research Station at Lockett include:
- Breeding summer-dormant cool season grasses for changing climate, Dariusz Malinowski, Ph.D., professor, Department of Soil and Crop Sciences, Vernon.
- Guar breeding and improvement, Waltram Ravelombola, Ph.D., assistant professor, Department of Soil and Crop Sciences, Vernon.
- Breakevens — What can we expect from next season? Pancho Abello, assistant professor and AgriLife Extension economist, Vernon.
The day will conclude with lunch, evaluation, and an administrative update from Richard Vierling, Ph.D., director of the Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center at Vernon.
