The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will host the Southeast Texas Urban Ag and Farm Safety Summit on Nov. 13 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. in Spring.

The event will take place at the George H.W. Bush Community Center, 6827 Cypresswood Drive. Registration is required at https://tx.ag/UrbanAgFarmSafety. Registration is $75 per person or $140 per couple. Registration includes breakfast, a catered lunch and snacks.

Five Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units are available for pesticide applicators: one laws and regulations, two integrated pest management and two general.

About the event

The event brings together new and experienced landowners, farmers, ranchers, agricultural professionals, community leaders, stakeholders and safety experts from across Southeast Texas to gain valuable knowledge and access resources related to agriculture and farm safety.

Attendees will have access to hands-on demonstrations, educational sessions, networking opportunities and an interactive trade show featuring more than 40 agriculture industry vendors.

Specific topics covered include:

  • Agricultural exemptions and agricultural loans.
  • New World screwworm.
  • Horse forage and nutrition management.
  • Backyard poultry in an urban setting.
  • Urban and community gardens.
  • Storm preparedness for livestock and pets.
  • Cottage food laws.
  • Nuisance animal and feral hog management.
  • Basic tractor use and safety.
