Webinar on minimizing drift on grazing lands set Dec. 7
Event part of Department of Rangeland, Wildlife and Fisheries Management Stewardship Series
The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will present the webinar “Minimizing Drift on Grazing Lands” on Dec. 7 from noon to 1 p.m. The webinar will cover strategies and methods to aid in drift minimization.
The webinar is part of the ongoing Department of Rangeland, Wildlife and Fisheries Management Stewardship Series.
The cost is $35, and advance registration prior to the start of the event required at https://tx.ag/RWFMStewardshipWebinars.
After payment is received, a follow-up email will be sent from the event organizer with instructions on how to access the webinar.
One Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education unit is available in drift minimization.
Mark Matocha, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension pesticide specialist, will be the featured speaker.
“An expert on drift, Dr. Matocha will cover different types of drift, factors that influence drift and drift strategies,” said Morgan Treadwell, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension range specialist, San Angelo. Treadwell is a series co-creator, along with Brittany Chesser, AgriLife Extension aquatic vegetation program specialist, Bryan-College Station.

“Anyone who applies herbicides needs to have a basic understanding of spray drift in order to prevent unintended plant damage,” Matocha said.
The drift minimization program will cover:
- Particle drift.
- Vapor drift.
- Physical characteristics of spray solutions.
- Factors that influence drift.
- Applicator influence on drift.
Strategies and methods to minimize drift will also be covered and will include discussions on delayed applications, nozzle type and droplet size, boom height and adjuvants.
