The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will host the annual West Plains Crops Conference on Jan. 12 in Levelland.

The conference will be held from 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at the Broken Spur Event Center, 2189 U.S. Highway 385. Registration cost is $40. To register, contact the AgriLife Extension office in Hockley County at 806-894-3159.

A total of four Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units will be available during the conference, including one integrated pest management, one general, one drift and one laws and regulations.

Conference agenda and topics

The conference will feature several topics and speakers, including:

  • Weed management solutions and weed challenges for 2024 – Peter Dotray, Ph.D., Texas A&M AgriLife Research weed scientist and professor in the Department of Soil and Crop Sciences, Lubbock.
  • Cotton insect management and wireworms – Suhas Vyavhare, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension cotton entomologist and assistant professor in the Department of Entomology, Lubbock.
  • General integrated pest management issues – Kerry Siders, AgriLife Extension integrated pest management agent in Hockley, Cochran and Lamb counties, Levelland.
  • Auxin training – Wes Utley, AgriLife Extension agriculture and natural resources agent, Hockley County.
