The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will host the four-part “Cooking Well with Diabetes” series of classes in Waco beginning March 14.

The program will be held from 5:30-7:30 every Thursday from March 14 through April 4 at the AgriLife Extension office in McLennan County, 4224 Cobbs Drive. Registration cost is $40. The deadline to register is March 11.

Program goal

The goal of the program is to help people and their loved ones who are living with diabetes to make healthier choices by learning how to make changes to the foods they eat and how they are prepared.

The materials are based on the American Diabetes Association and Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics recommendations and current trends in medical nutrition therapy.

Cooking Well with Diabetes Topics

Through fun and interactive cooking demonstrations, the courses will cover the following topics:

  • Recognizing carbohydrates in foods.
  • Planning balanced meals.
  • Increasing healthy fats.
  • Improving sodium and fiber content.
