Back to the Basics mini symposium to be held May 11 in Claude
Program topics include baking with fresh milled wheat, sourdough bread and cheese making
The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service office in Armstrong County will host a Back to the Basics mini symposium on May 11 in Claude.
The mini symposium will be held from 9 a.m.-noon at the Armstrong County Activity Center, 901 Hurley Ave. The cost is $30. Space is limited and an RSVP is required. To RSVP, contact the office at 806-410-1296. Payment is required in advance.
Mini symposium agenda
The workshop will feature hands-on demonstrations on how to make homemade healthy foods including fresh milled wheat, cheese, as well as sourdough bread.
Participants will learn the nutritional benefits of each food item and will receive a sourdough starter and recipes during the event. They will also be able to sample each food item after the class.
The topics and speakers are as follows:
- Sourdough bread for beginners — Kyndal Sims, former 4-H member, Claude.
- Why fresh milled? Learn to bake with fresh milled wheat — Kylie Bateman, former 4-H member, Claude.
- Cheese making: You’ll never go back! — Billie Peden, AgriLife Extension family and community health agent for Armstrong County.
