Much of the Mill Creek watershed is privately owned and the event relies on landowner involvement. Trash bags and gloves are available at the AgriLife Extension office in Austin County, 800 E. Wendt St., Bellville, or the AgriLife Extension office in Washington County, 1305 E. Blue Bell Road, Brenham.

A dumpster will also be provided for disposing of waste removed from each landowner’s section of Mill Creek. The dumpster will be located at the Bleiblerville Volunteer Fire Department, 3342 Farm-to-Market Road 2502, Bellville, from 9 a.m. to noon on the day of the event.

“This is a great opportunity for watershed landowners to get rid of waste that has washed onto their property,” said Annalee Epps, AgriLife Extension program specialist and Mill Creek Watershed coordinator in the Texas A&M Department of Soil and Crop Sciences. “I encourage people to gather family and friends and work together to clean up sections of Mill Creek.”

Registration is required and can be completed by Epps at 979-321-5921 or at [email protected]. More details can be found on the website at millcreek.tamu.edu.

About the partnership

The Mill Creek Watershed Partnership was established by local stakeholders in 2016 as a response to elevated E. coli levels in Mill Creek. Through free educational programs and outreach events, the partnership seeks to promote the implementation of best management practices by all watershed residents.

Funding for this effort is provided through a federal Clean Water Act nonpoint source grant administered by the Texas Soil and Water Conservation Board from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
