The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service office in McLennan County will offer a two-day professional food manager certification course on June 17 and June 24 in Waco.

The training will be from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the AgriLife Extension office, 4224 Cobbs Drive. Cost is $125 and includes course materials and the certification exam. Participants will need to attend both dates and bring valid photo identification in order to take the exam.

Course prepares food managers for exam

The Texas Department of State Health Services requires food establishments to employ at least one certified professional food manager.

In addition to preparing food managers for the exam, Esquivel said the course will help them understand major causes of foodborne illnesses and how to prevent them, as well as educate employees on food safety.

Certifications are valid for five years and are good anywhere in the state of Texas.
