AgriLife Extension to host Public Works Conference on Jan. 18 in San Antonio
Continuing education units available to parks, landscape and turf management employees
The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service office in Bexar County will host a public works conference on Jan. 18 in San Antonio.
The conference will be held from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the San Antonio Garden Center, 3310 N. New Braunfels Ave., with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m.
Attendees must select one of two tracks available. Track 1 is for commercial, non-commercial and private pesticide license holders needing continuing education units. Track 2 is for those who are preparing to take the Texas Department of Agriculture commercial/non-commercial pesticide license exam.
The cost for Track 1 is $60, and Track 2, $170. Online registration is available for Track 1 only at https://tx.ag/BexarCoPWConf. For Track 2, contact the AgriLife Extension Agricultural and Environmental Safety Unit office at 979-845-3849 to RSVP.
The RSVP deadline for both tracks is Jan. 12.
There will be a total of six Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units for those who complete the first track, including three general, two integrated pest management and one laws and regulations unit. The laws and regulation unit is pending TDA approval. Attendees must bring their TDA registration card to the conference.
Conference agenda
The conference is geared toward municipal and city park employees, golf course groundskeepers, landscape pest management and turf management professionals, and lawn care companies.
Track 1:
- TDA Pesticide Laws and Regulations: Keeping Yourself Out of Trouble – Vick Alexander, assistant regional director, Texas Department of Agriculture, San Antonio.
- Pesticide Application Equipment and Proper Use – Megan Clayton, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension range specialist and professor in the Texas A&M Department of Rangeland, Wildlife and Fisheries Management, Uvalde, and Sam Womble, AgriLife Extension agriculture and natural resources agent, Bexar County.
- Managing right of ways – Matt Matocha, AgriLife Extension integrated pest management specialist, Stiles Farm, Thrall.
- Tree care and maintenance – Mark Kroeze, staff forester, Texas A&M Forest Service, San Antonio.
- Turfgrass selection and maintenance – David Rodriguez, AgriLife Extension horticulture agent, Bexar County.
- Tree and turf pest management – Molly Keck, AgriLife Extension senior program specialist, San Antonio.
Track 2:
- Landscape maintenance – Mark Matocha, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension agricultural and environmental unit pesticide safety education specialist, AgriLife Extension Agricultural and Environmental Safety Unit, Bryan-College Station.
