Wisdom, Power and Control, a course on diabetes management, will begin June 18 in Waco. The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service office in McLennan County will host the program.

The four-part program will be held every Thursday through July 9 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the AgriLife Extension office in McLennan County, 4224 Cobbs Drive.

The course is a diabetes-self management program for African American adults, age 18 and older, who have Type 2 diabetes.

Cost to attend is $10, and individuals can register by calling Rachel Esquivel, AgriLife Extension family and community health agent in McLennan County, at 254-757-5180 or by email at [email protected].

Diabetes management course topics

Taught by Esquivel, participants will learn how to develop diabetes self-care skills such as improving eating habits, maintaining good nutrition, increasing physical activity and controlling blood sugar.

Topics include:

  • What is diabetes?
  • Healthy eating and blood glucose testing.
  • Moving more and taking your medicines.
  • Preventing diabetes problems.
