Course will highlight relevant services, key policy developments
The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and OneOp will host the “Medicaid and Military-Connected Families: Current Trends and Potential Pathways to the Future” webinar on June 5.

The free webinar will be from 10-11 a.m. on OneOp, a virtual professional development platform for providers who serve military families.
Participants can register by visiting https://tx.ag/MedicaidAndMilitary. Once registered, participants will receive a confirmation email containing the webinar link.
About the webinar
Medicaid has played a vital role in providing health coverage for individuals and families with low incomes and special care needs. For military-connected families, Medicaid can serve as a valuable complement to TRICARE, particularly for those caring for family members with special healthcare needs.
Additionally, Medicare may become a critical source of coverage for individuals transitioning out of military service due to separation or retirement.
The webinar will be led by Christopher Plein, Ph.D., Eberly Family Professor for Outstanding Public Service Emeritus at West Virginia University.
Learning objectives
- Identify how Medicaid supports military-connected families, including those on active duty, in the National Guard and Reserve and those who are retired or separated from service.
- Describe the interaction between Medicaid and TRICARE in providing healthcare coverage.
- Explore the role of Medicaid Home and Community-Based Services waivers in supporting dependents with special care needs.
