The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, in conjunction with the Texas Department of Agriculture, will host an Agricultural Pesticide Waste Collection event on July 23 in Navasota.

The event will take place from 8 a.m. to noon at the Grimes County Fairgrounds, 5220 Farm-to-Market Road 3455. 

There is no cost, and a 2,000-pound limit applies per participant. The event is designed to offer a safe, efficient, and economical method for disposing of banned, unwanted, or surplus agricultural pesticides. 

The goal of the program is to properly dispose of unwanted or unusable pesticides, thus preventing human exposure, the use of banned pesticides on crops and eliminating potential sources of environmental contamination. 

Accepted materials

The following items will be accepted:

  • Pesticides.
  • Insecticides.
  • Herbicides.
  • Fungicides.
  • Rodenticides.
  • Nematicides.
  • Growth regulators.

Pesticides should be kept in original containers. If they are damaged, place them into a larger chemical-resistant container. 

Materials not accepted

The following items will not be accepted:

  • Dioxins.
  • Empty totes and drums.
  • Fertilizers.
  • Fumigant canisters.
  • Household hazardous waste.
  • Methyl-bromide cylinders.
  • Motor oil.
  • Paint.
  • Pesticide rinsate.
  • Phostoxins.
  • Propane or butane cylinders.
  • Radioactive substances.
  • Tires.
