The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service office in McLennan County and McLennan Community College are hosting Sí, Yo Puedo Controlar Mi Diabetes, a series of classes for Spanish-speaking adults with Type 2 diabetes. 

The four-week series will be held on Tuesday evenings from 5:30-7:30 p.m. beginning Nov. 19. Classes will be held at the AgriLife Extension office in McLennan County, 4224 Cobbs Drive, Waco. 

The cost is $10 and online registration is available at https://tx.ag/SiYoPuedo. Deadline to register is Nov. 17.

About the program

Sí, Yo Puedo Controlar Mi Diabetes is a diabetes self-management education program. The curriculum is based on the “empowerment principle” emphasizing increasing participants’ self-efficacy. 

The process-oriented course is intended to be delivered in a prescribed manner. All sessions are taught as a structured protocol that outlines the content to be discussed and methods to be used during each activity. 

The class will be led by Rachel Esquivel, AgriLife Extension family and community health agent for McLennan County. 

Participants will learn to: 

  • Develop diabetes self-care skills.
  • Improve eating habits and maintain good nutrition.
  • Increase physical activity.
  • Prevent diabetes complications.
  • Improve the quality of life living with Type 2 diabetes.
