The webinar is part of the ongoing Stewardship Series hosted within the Texas A&M College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Department of Rangeland, Wildlife and Fisheries Management.

The cost is $35, and advance registration is required at https://tx.ag/WhiteTailedDeer. One Texas Department of Agriculture general continuing education unit for pesticide applicators will be available upon completion for live attendees.

After payment is received, an email will be sent with instructions on how to access the webinar.

Chronic wasting disease

The featured speaker will be Jacob Dykes, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension wildlife specialist and assistant professor in the Department of Rangeland, Wildlife and Fisheries Management, Corpus Christi.

Dykes said CWD is a fatal neurological disease affecting members of the deer family including white-tailed and mule deer as well as elk and several exotic species found in Texas.

“Due to its highly infectious and fatal nature, there is concern for a decline in deer populations in Texas,” Dykes said. “This webinar will educate Texas landowners on the disease and help them manage their land in ways that mitigate the spread of CWD in deer populations.”

Webinar topics

The webinar will cover a variety of information including:

  • The history and status of CWD.
  • How CWD is transmitted.
  • The signs of CWD.
  • Different strategies for managing CWD.
