FT. WORTH — The latest information on the management of grasslands in the United States will be presented at the 1997 annual meeting of the American Forage and Grassland Council, held this year at the Radisson Hotel in Ft. Worth on April 13-15.
“This will be an excellent opportunity for anyone who manages grassland to get the latest, most reliable research information from speakers across the United States and Canada,” said Dr. Gerald Evers, professor of forage management at the Texas A&M University Agricultural Research and Extension Center at Overton, Texas.
The program will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 13, with the Forage Spokesman Contest. Later in the afternoon, there will be a tour of the Fort Worth Stockyards and a social featuring a Mexican fajita and taco buffet.
The general session Monday morning focuses on major aspects of forage production. Dr. Floyd Horn, USDA under secretary of agriculture, is slated to give a national perspective on grasslands. Dr. Edward Hiler, vice chancellor and dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Texas A&M University, will give the Texas perspective.
Among other grassland authorities, Dr. Edward Segarra will discuss the influence of NAFTA and farm programs on grasslands.
Papers and posters will be presented all day Tuesday. Subjects will include forage management and utilization, pasture management, forage quality and ruminant nutrition, economics of forage utilization, soil fertility and plant nutrition, plant breeding and effective forage education projects.
