BAZER RECEIVES INTERNATIONAL AWARD FROM HONOR SOCIETY

COLLEGE STATION — Dr. Fuller Bazer, professor and holder of the O.D. Butler Chair in animal science at Texas A&M University, has received the international Distinguished Achievement in Agriculture award from Gamma Sigma Delta, the international agriculture honor society.

Bazer, also director of Texas A&M’s Institute of Biosciences and Technology and recognized as one of the world’s foremost researchers in animal reproductive biology, received the award March 18 at the annual awards banquet for Texas A&M’s chapter of Gamma Sigma Delta.

The presentation was made by Dr. Joe Kotrlik of Louisiana State University, international president of Gamma Sigma Delta. The award is the most prestigious given by the organization to honor a member who has made great contributions to the agricultural profession.

The society’s international officers choose the winner based on teaching, research and extension contributions.

Bazer was a graduate research professor in the departments of animal science and pediatrics from 1968 to 1992, when he joined the faculty at Texas A&M. His work focuses on identification and characterization of secretory products of the conceptus and uterus.

He is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He has served in leadership positions in the Society for the Study of Reproduction and the Gordon Research Conference, and he has served on the editorial boards of several research journals.

A native of Shreveport, La., Bazer earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Centenary College of Louisiana, a master’s degree in animal science from Louisiana State University, and a doctoral degree from North Carolina State University.
