SAN ANTONIO–Grace Guerra has been named extension agent-family and consumer sciences for the Prairie View Cooperative Extension Service in San Antonio. She will be responsible for promoting family nutrition and wellness systems to limited-resource families.
Guerra holds a master’s degree in counseling from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and was most recently employed by Tejas Management System, Inc., a human services agency in Corpus Christi. A case coordinator, she worked with state hospital patients reassigned to foster homes by providing services to meet their needs in living skills and employment.
While in Corpus Christi, she also worked jointly on projects with the Nueces County Extension office. She is currently working on teacher certification in family and consumer science at Texas A&M Kingsville.
Bexar County Extension Director Kaye Woodward said Guerra would be a welcome addition to the county office.
“There is much work to be done with limited resource families,” said Woodward, “and Grace brings a high level of people skills and organizational experience to the position.”
Guerra’s first project is the Family First Nutrition Education and Wellness Systems (FFNEWS) program, which provides adults with nutrition, health, money management and food safety instruction. She will be working with the parents of children previously involved with Prairie View youth development programs in San Antonio schools and community centers.
