DALLAS – Texas Cooperative Extension will host a family-strengthening seminar called Cultures, Fathers and Families: Train The Trainer Workshop from 8 a.m.- 4:15 p.m. Oct.4 at Texas A&M Dallas, located at 17360 Coit Road in Dallas.
The six-hour workshop is designed to equip parent educators, counselors, caseworkers, ministers and social service providers with tools to work effectively with fathers from a variety of cultural backgrounds.
“The workshop is based on two simple premises,” said Dr. Stephen Green, Extension child development specialist. “Fathers play a critical role in the development of their children, and families are stronger as a result of positive father involvement.”
Keynote speakers include Green, Dr. Linda Jouridine, Extension health specialist, and J. Michael Hall, special projects coordinator for the Center for Successful Fathering.
Topics to be covered include: contemporary fatherhood, cultural perspectives on fatherhood, promoting positive father-child relationships and fathers’ legal rights.
Continuing Education Units are available for social workers, licensed marriage and family therapists and licensed professional counselors.
Registration fee is $25 and covers lunch, snacks and program materials. To register or for more information call Annie Tinsley at (214)904-3050.
