HOUSTON — The Harris County Cooperative Extension Program 4-H staff will hold a College Day on Saturday, Oct. 6, to inform young people, grades 8 to 12, about what’s required to attend college.
The event will take place at the Judson Robinson Jr. Community Center, 2020 Hermann Drive in Houston.
“We want young people to get a head start if they want to attend college,” said Sonja Stueart-Davis, Extension 4-H agent.
“Learning about college admission procedures, filling out financial aid and scholarship forms, and knowing what colleges and universities are available will get them on the right track to higher education.”
Registration starts at 9 a.m., followed by an opening ceremony to welcome the young people and their parents. Hour-long workshops begin at 9:45 a.m. and run concurrently until 2:30 p.m. Workshop topics are: The Transition from High School to College; Financing a College Education; and College vs. Trade School or the Military.
“This College Day, sponsored by the Harris County 4-H & Youth Development Committee, promises to be very informative because it will feature exhibits from various colleges and universities not only in Texas, but the whole nation,” Stueart-Davis said. “We will have exhibitors representing universities from Louisiana, Iowa, Oklahoma and other states as well as representation from our U.S. military.”
There is no charge to attend the event. Contact Stueart-Davis at (713) 440-4900 for more information.
