DALLAS — As November rapidly approaches, the holiday season is nearly here. To help with the holiday spirit, Texas Cooperative Extension will host the annual “Be Holiday Smart” program Nov. 8 at Texas A&M Dallas. The Dallas Center is at 17360 Coit Road (between Campbell Road and Highway 190).
This event will begin at 9:15 a.m. with registration and refreshments; it will conclude at noon.
Featured speakers include Dusty Brazeal of Plano’s MJ Designs, and Mary Sue Cole, Hunt County Extension agent for family and consumer sciences.
“Dusty will demonstrate how easy it is to make a Thanksgiving centerpiece and Christmas door wreath,” said Carrie Brazeal, Extension agent for family and consumer sciences in Collin County. “Dusty was an interior designer for 25 years before joining MJ Designs as a floral designer in 1999.” The wreath she makes in the demonstration will be donated as a door prize.
“Mary Sue will talk about gifts from the diverse cultures of Texas,” said Brazeal. “If you need a unique gift for that difficult person to buy for, then you won’t want to miss her presentation.”
A silent auction featuring handcrafted items will begin at 9:15 a.m. and continue until the program starts at 10 a.m.
A drawing for a hand-made quilted wall hanging will be a special highlight of “Be Holiday Smart.”
“The winner of the one-of-a-kind snowman wall hanging will be announced at the conclusion of the event,” said Brazeal. “Tickets for the drawing are $1 each or six for $5 and can be purchased in advance or at the door.”
Door prizes will be drawn throughout the morning; silent auction winners will be announced at the conclusion of the program.
Tickets for the event are $5 and may be ordered in advance or picked up at registration. All proceeds are used to sponsor youth and educational scholarships.
Tickets are limited; advance registration is requested by Oct. 26. Contact Carrie Brazeal for more information at (972) 548-4233 (metro (972) 424-1460, ext 4233).
