“BRUSH BUSTERS” WORKSHOP SET FOR MAY 28

GLEN ROSE — The innovators of the “Brush Busters” concept will be offering a one day workshop May 28 at the Somervell County Expo Center at Glen Rose.

Dr. Darrell Ueckert, professor of rangeland ecology and management with the Texas Agricultural Experiment Station, and Dr. Allan McGinty, professor and Texas Cooperative Extension range specialist, will be presenting a comprehensive overview of their brush management system.

The program will include both classroom and field demonstrations. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m., followed by an “Overview of the Center for Grazinglands and Ranch Management” by Wayne Hamilton, center director at Texas A&M University.

“Overview of the Texas Christian University Institute of Ranch Management” will be presented by Bryan Vasseur, institute director. At 10:30 a.m., a general overview of the brush busters program will be presented by Ueckert and McGinty.

Following a noon lunch, sponsored by Dow AgroSciences, participants will travel to a nearby ranch and participate in an outdoor workshop and hands-on training session. They will also split into three groups for concurrent sessions. The sessions will cover basic herbicides and how they are used; brush buster application techniques for mesquite, cedar and pricklypear, and equipment. The workshop will adjourn at 5 p.m.

Workshop sponsors include the Center for Grazinglands and Ranch Management at Texas A&M; TCU Institute of Ranch Management; Experiment Station, Extension, and Dow AgroSciences.

Cost is $20 prior to May 22 and $30 thereafter. A total of five continuing education units will be available for herbicide applicators licenses. For registration information, call (817) 257-7145.
