COLLEGE STATION Texas Railroad Commission Chairman Michael Williams has scheduled a 1 p.m. press conference Friday, Sept. 13, at the Brayton Fire School at Texas A&M University.
Williams will announce his endorsement of a treatment program at Texas A&M that focuses on the recovery of fresh water from oil- and gas-produced brine. The program is studying the beneficial use of the fresh water in projects designed with the assistance of residents from West Texas rural communities. A&M scientists believe their technology will offer a new source of water that can be used for irrigation as well as rangeland restoration and wildlife habitat improvement.
The Texas A&M research team includes members from the Texas Water Resources Institute, department of petroleum engineering and Texas Cooperative Extension. Other Texas A&M departments partnering in the project are chemical engineering, rangeland and ecology management, soil and crop sciences, and wildlife and fisheries.
To get to the Brayton Fire Field, take Raymond Stotzer Parkway (F.M. 60) to Harvey Mitchell Parkway (F.M. 2818). Continue south on F.M. 2818 until reaching George Bush Drive. Turn right onto George Bush Dr. (F.M. 2347 west) and take a left at the first road which will have a sign pointing to the Brayton Fire Field.
Proceed to Gate B and take a left. Continue on until you reach the staging pond (press conference site.)
