ELDORADO Texas Cooperative Extension is hosting a four-county Lawn and Garden Workshop for homeowners beginning at 8:30 a.m. May 28 in Eldorado’s Memorial Building. Sponsoring counties are Menard, Schleicher, Irion and Sutton.
Three Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units will be available for people with pesticide applicators licenses.
“We all enjoy a beautifully manicured yard,” said Scott Edmonson, Extension county agricultural agent in Schleicher County. “But, pretty yards don’t come easy. It takes lots of time, effort, and good old fashioned hard labor to achieve this look. Whether you’re a new homeowner wondering where to start or a seasoned landscaper just looking for a little soil fertility information, this program is the place to be.
Topics and speakers are “Pesticide Laws and Regulations,” Cain Cline, TDA, San Angelo; “Water Capturing Ideas,” Billy Kniffen, Extension agent for Menard County; “Lawn and Garden Design,” John Begnaud, Extension horticulturist in Tom Green County; “Soils and Soil Fertility,” Dr. Billy Warrick, Extension agronomist, San Angelo; and “Lawn and Garden Pests: 10 Most Damaging,” Dr. Chris Sansone, Extension entomologist, San Angelo.
The program will adjourn at 4 p.m. following a question and answer panel manned by the day’s speakers.
Registration is $10 per person. RSVP to the Schleicher County Extension office at (325) 853-2132 by noon on May 27. The fee covers the cost of a noon meal catered by the Sutton County Steakhouse.
