COLLEGE STATION The Texas A&M University department of animal science will host the third annual “Aggieland Goat Camp” on Aug. 8-10, 2003 in College Station.
“After a great response the last two years, we have expanded the Aggieland Goat Camp and put together the most comprehensive training available for goat exhibitors,” said Dr. Shawn Ramsey, camp coordinator.
“This camp gives youngsters and their parents a chance to learn from the best, including Texas A&M and Texas Cooperative Extension staff and students willing to share their inside tips from their own junior goat show successes.”
The camp is open to 4-H and FFA members ages of 8 to 18. Participants must furnish their own goat and be accompanied by an adult.
“The hands-on aspect of Aggieland Goat Camp is what makes it great,” said Ramsey. “Campers get one-on-one attention with their goats and can immediately put what they learn into practice. Additionally, adults have their own portion of the camp, so it’s like two camps in one. The family learns together on what it takes to have a successful project.”
Campers must arrive by 1 p.m. on Aug. 8. The program continues on Aug. 9 with training on showmanship, feeding, daily care and management and fitting. A showmanship contest will be held on Aug. 10 followed by an awards luncheon.
Camp registration is $55 per camper, and is due by July 11.
