CANYON — Robert Devin, agricultural agent in Randall County, will be setting a new course after Aug. 31, after more than 32 years of service with Texas Cooperative Extension.
A reception honoring the agent will be held on Aug. 28, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Extension Office meeting room at 1513 5th Avenue in Canyon.
Dr. Bob Robinson, Panhandle district Extension director for county agriculture programs, of Amarillo, said, “Robert’s career contributions have been outstanding. Very few A&M employees have been recognized as a Regent’s Fellow, and he’s among them.”
A Dumas native, Devin joined Extension as an assistant agent in Deaf Smith County. He moved into the agent position first in Dallam County, then in Potter. He was the district 4-H agent before moving to Randall County, as agricultural agent, where he spent the last 18 years.
Devin earned his undergraduate degree from West Texas State University, where he also earned the master of science degree. He holds trainer certifications in multiple Extension programs. He also completed training with the Chicago Board of Trade to better assist his county producers in commodities marketing.
According to his long time Extension co-worker, Leesa Calvi, family and consumer science agent, Devin has had a keen vision for Randall County.
“Robert has helped our clientele focus on issues critical to the future of this county, and especially where youth development, water resources and production agriculture are concerned,” Calvi said.
During his career with Extension, Devin twice earned its highest honor, the Superior Service Award. In addition, Devin is the recipient of the Outstanding Agent Award, presented by the Texas Association of Extension Specialists, and the Distinguished Service Award, presented by the Texas County Agricultural Agents Association.
“I have worked with Robert for many years and can honestly say he is the best county agent from an agronomy standpoint that I have ever worked with,” said Dr. Brent Bean, Extension agronomist for the Panhandle.
