SAN ANTONIO — Texas Cooperative Extension has named Paul Schattenberg its new communications specialist for Bexar and Travis counties.
Schattenberg divides his time between San Antonio and Austin as Extension’s “I-35 corridor” agricultural communications’ specialist. His main responsibilities are news gathering and story placement for the Texas A&M University System in Central Texas as well as at the system’s Agricultural Research and Extension Center in Uvalde.
“I’m enjoying being a part of the ag communications team,” Schattenberg said. “I’m impressed with the breadth of Extension’s community outreach through its various programs. The agency gives county residents of all ages a means to learn practical, useful life skills through hands-on teaching. It truly is real learning for real life.”
Schattenberg earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches and a master’s degree in communication arts from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio.
Prior to joining Extension, the San Antonio native wrote for the San Antonio Business Journal and the Texican, the Dallas Times Herald’s bilingual weekend supplement.
He also spent 17 years in corporate communication with USAA in San Antonio and Cummins Engine Co. in Dallas.
Schattenberg spent more than two years living in Mexico, the Czech Republic and Italy. He then traveled in China and East Africa.
He can be reached at the Extension office in Bexar County at (210) 467-6575, ext. 217, or in Travis County at (512) 854-3194. His e-mail address is paschattenberg@ag.tamu.edu.
