COLLEGE STATION - The Texas Apiary Inspection Service is encouraging everyone with an interest in the state’s bee industry to participate in the agency’s review Oct. 28.
Paul Jackson, chief of the inspection service, said bee industry representatives and the general public are welcome at the event, which is planned for 9:30-11 a.m.
Comments on the agency’s “past, present and future activities” will be heard by a review team in Building 4431, Room 330, at Texas A&M University’s Riverside Campus, near the interesection of Texas highways 47 and 21, in Bryan.
The apiary inspection service, a part of the Texas Agricultural Experiment Station, stems from the state entomologist office which was created by state legislators in 1899. Since 1925, the service has existed as the regulatory agency of the Texas beekeeping industry. It was instrumental in managing the state’s response to Africanized honey bees, which first entered the United States via Texas in 1990.
