New Extension Agent Hired for Pest Management in Four Counties

DUMAS -– Dr. Roxanne Bowling has been hired as an Integrated Pest Management agent for Texas Cooperative Extension and will serve Moore, Sherman, Hartley and Dallam counties.

Bowling will begin her new duties July 1 and be headquartered in Dumas, said Donna Brauchi, Extension district director.

“Dr. Bowling is a very talented person with a wide array of skills and will be a great addition to the IPM faculty,” Brauchi said.

Bowling earned her doctorate in entomology from Kansas State University and worked as a post-doctorate research assistant at West Texas A&M University and Texas Agricultural Experiment Station.

She has been the Crops at Risk project field coordinator, working with Dr. Bonnie Pendleton at West Texas A&M and Dr. Jerry Michels at the Experiment Station. Bowling also worked with Moore, Dallam and Hartley county personnel in 2005 on a cotton thrips insecticide management trial.

“I hope to provide leadership for an effective educational program that supports integrated pest management in any field crop and includes growers, consultants and scouts, as well as assisting the urban clientele with their pest management challenges,” Bowling said.

She hopes to continue her collaboration with local producers, consultants, urban clients, West Texas A&M professionals, Experiment Station personnel, agri-chemical research and development personnel, seed companies and universities outside of Texas, she said.
