34-year AgriLife Extension employee receives Vice Chancellor’s Award Praised for support of AgriLife Extension’s Bexar County office

SAN ANTONIO – Carrie Huntzinger, office manager for the Texas AgriLife Extension Service office for Bexar County, has received a Vice Chancellor’s Award for off-campus administrative support.

The award was announced during the recent annual AgriLife Conference held on the campus of Texas A&M University in College Station.

Huntzinger began her career with the agency in 1974. She worked her way up to administrative secretary, then through office assistant levels to become office supervisor for AgriLife Extension’s Bexar County office. Huntzinger has held that position from 2004 to the present.

“Carrie Huntzinger is a consummate professional with a stellar reputation for supporting Bexar County office administration, agents, support staff, volunteers and clientele,” said Lupe Landeros, county director for AgriLife Extension, Bexar County, in her award nomination letter.

In her role as office manager, Huntzinger provides daily assistance to the county director; oversees office support staff and assists county agents; and provides direct or peripheral support to 20 positions located in the AgriLife Extension office, as well as nine positions within the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s local Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program office.

Among Huntzinger’s accomplishments noted in the award citation were: serving as webmaster for the Bexar County AgriLife Extension Web site; using her interpersonal and human resources skills to develop and blend a skilled support staff; planning and coordinating several urban office teleconference training sessions; and producing creative, appealing materials to “interpret the agency to its stakeholders.”

“For more than 34 years, Carrie Huntzinger has supported the Texas AgriLife Extension Service through her diligence, devotion, innovation and hard work,” the citation read. “Her supervisor, office support personnel, Extension agents and clients all have great respect for her and her many contributions to the agency.”

“I appreciate those who assisted with my nomination, and I’m so grateful for those who have supported me throughout my career,” said Huntzinger. “I am proud to be a part of the Texas AgriLife Extension Service in Bexar County, and I’m thrilled to have received this prestigious award.”
