TULIA – The Texas AgriLife Extension Service, Farm Services Agency and Texas Farm Bureau will conduct a free range, pasture and forage insurance meeting from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Sept. 15 in the Swisher County Memorial Building.
The memorial building is located at 127 S.W. 2nd Street in Tulia.
Jay Yates, AgriLife Extension risk management specialist at Lubbock, said the sales closing date for pasture, rangeland and forage insurance for the 2011crop year is Sept. 30, so producers need to make their risk management decisions soon.
“With the expanded coverage and enhancements to the program, many questions remain,” Yates said. “The Farm Services Agency’s non-insured crop disaster assistance or NAP program is also a key component of the forage producer’s risk management plan which should be considered. That is especially true with this week’s news that producers can carry both types of protection on the same crop.”
Yates and Eddie Womack, county executive director, for the Swisher County Farm Services Agency, will present the information. Yates will cover the pasture, range and forage insurance program, and Womack will speak on the NAP program.
Lunch will be provided. Attendees are asked to RSVP to the AgriLife Extension office in Swisher County at 806-995-3726 by Sept. 10 to help ensure an accurate meal count.
