DALHART – Shelby Wilson grew up in the 4-H program, interned in the 4-H program over the summer and now is the newest 4-H and youth development agent for Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. She will be serving both Dallam and Hartley counties.

Wilson, a native of Dalhart, earned her bachelor’s degree from Tarleton State University in
Stephenville and then returned home. This past summer, she has worked as an intern in the very office where she began her full-time position on Sept. 1.

“This internship provided me the opportunity to work with the county agents for agriculture and natural resources, family and consumer sciences, and other office personnel,” she said. “We have formed an office environment that is based on mutual respect and consideration of each other and our clientele.”

During her internship, Wilson served as this year’s pig-validation chairman and served on the steer-validation committee.

Danny Nusser, AgriLife Extension district administrator in Amarillo, said Wilson has a unique combination of skills that will allow her to be very successful in her role.

“Shelby’s energy, work ethic and passion to help others are very impressive,” Nusser said. “These skills and her willingness to be a team player should provide the leadership needed to help maintain Dallam and Hartley counties’ 4-H programs as some of the best in the state.”

“I’ve already established a relationship with the parents, leaders, volunteers and youth involved in the 4-H program here, so I am excited to continue working with them,” Wilson said.
