AMARILLO – A regional spring sorghum producers’ workshop will be held Feb. 7, hosted by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service offices in Potter, Randall, Oldham and Deaf Smith counties.

Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. with the program following from 8 a.m. to noon at the AgriLife Extension offices in Potter County, 3301 E. 10th Ave. in Amarillo.

“Many producers are preparing for sorghum to be a big percentage of commodity production in the coming years, so we need to make sure they have the tools they need to be successful,” said Brandon Boughen, AgriLife Extension agent in Potter County.

Speakers and topics include:

– Dr. Calvin Trostle, AgriLife Extension agronomist in Lubbock, agronomic practices.

– Dr. Ed Bynum, AgriLife Extension entomologist in Amarillo, integrated pest management and insect control.

– Dr. Louis Baumhardt, U.S. Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service research soil scientist at Bushland, cropping practices.

– Dr. Justin Weinheimer, United Sorghum Checkoff crop improvement program director in Lubbock, market updates and outlooks.

Three Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education credits – two general and one integrated pest management – will be available, Boughen said.

A $10 registration fee will be payable at the door. Those planning to attend are asked to register by Feb. 1 by calling 806-373-0713.
