Acuff receives International Association for Food Protection Fellow award

COLLEGE STATION – Dr. Gary Acuff, director for the Texas A&M Center for Food Safety and a professor of food microbiology in the department of animal science, recently received the International Association for Food Protection Fellow award at the association’s annual meeting in Charlotte, N.C.

The award is given to professionals who have contributed to the association and its affiliates over an extended period of time, according to the association. Further, nominees must be members for 15 or more consecutive years and actively involved in the food-protection community. Nominees are evaluated on a point system.

Dr. Gary Acuff, director for the Texas A&M Center for Food Safety and a professor of food microbiology in the department of animal science.

Acuff directs activities at the A&M food safety center, which is an interdisciplinary collaborative effort revolving around food safety research, training and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service activities.

Acuff received a bachelor’s of science degree in biology from Abilene Christian University and his master’s degree and doctorate in food science and technology, specializing in food microbiology, from Texas A&M University.
