Winkler receives Superior Service Award for Distinguished Career

COLLEGE STATION – David Winkler, a Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service agent for Bosque County, has received a Superior Service Award in the Distinguished Career category.

The award was presented Jan. 8 during the agency’s Centennial Conference in College Station.

According to the award citation, Winkler was recognized for his extensive education programming and service in Bosque County where he served for 28 of his 31 years with AgriLife Extension. During that time he has demonstrated a variety of programmatic successes in the areas of livestock and forage, crop, wildlife management, range management, tourism, 4-H and youth activities, volunteer management, scholarship fundraising and leadership development.

“County agents statewide know Mr. Winkler as a respected mentor who leads by example,” according to the award nomination.

Said Jay Wright, a Bosque County producer, “As a ranch manager, I have called upon David on many occasions to assist in making decisions that affect the ranch. Whether I ask about planting rates or brush control, he always knows the answers to my questions or knows where to find the answers immediately.”

His 4-H leadership helped Bosque County youth receive $700,000 in scholarship money over the past 15 years, according to the nomination.

It went on to state, “These opportunities have come in the form of Hay Show Scholarships, county 4-H scholarships, 4-H Foundation scholarships and Terry  Foundation scholarships. The youth of Bosque County are truly blessed to have David helping them.”

Superior Service awards are presented to personnel who demonstrate outstanding performance or provide exceptional service to AgriLife Extension, an educational outreach agency of The Texas A&M University System.
