Drip irrigation program slated for April 15 in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO — The Backyard Gardening series program “What is Drip Irrigation?” will be presented from 6:30-8:30 p.m. April 15 at the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service office for Bexar County.

The office location is Suite 208 of the Conroy Square business complex, 3355 Cherry Ridge Drive in San Antonio.

“Drip irrigation is a method that saves water by allowing water to drip slowly to the roots of plants, either onto the soil surface or directly onto the root zone, through a network of valves, pipes, tubing and emitters,” said David Rodriguez, AgriLife Extension horticulturist for Bexar County and program coordinator. “Almost no water is lost through surface runoff or evaporation, and soil particles have plenty of opportunity to absorb and hold water for plants.”

Rodriguez said the program’s featured presenter will be Bexar County Master Gardener Dr. Tom Harris.

“Tom is a great speaker and is knowledgeable about a variety of drip irrigation systems,” Rodriguez said. “Anyone from a homeowner to a professional landscaper can get information and insights they can use.”
