BLANCO – The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service and Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board will present the “Feral Hog Management Workshop” from 8 a.m.-2:45 p.m. May 22 at Holt Oaks Ranch, 3030 Little Blanco Road in Blanco.

Program presenters will include representatives of AgriLife Extension, the Lower Colorado River Authority, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Texas Department of Agriculture, Texas Animal Health Commission and USDA Wildlife Services.
Topics will include feral hog biology and damage to watersheds, population dynamics, laws and regulations for hunting, agricultural regulations, safety and disease concerns from feral hogs, transportation regulations and control options. There also will be an update on research related to feral hogs.
“This is a comprehensive program about feral hogs, which annually cause tens of millions of dollars of damage to property, crops and watershed areas, as well as possibly spreading disease,” said Dan Gaskins, AgriLife Extension assistant in wildlife and fisheries sciences, Gatesville.
At least four hours of Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units will be offered for commercial, non-commercial and private applicators for program participation.
The cost is $20 and includes a catered lunch. Participants must preregister by 5 p.m. May 16 to ensure an accurate meal count.
