BROWNWOOD – Oktoberfest, a camp for adults 50 and older, will be held Oct. 20-22 at the Texas 4-H Center on Lake Brownwood.
The camp, presented by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, offers fun educational sessions and activities for senior men and women, said center director Mark Carroll.
“This year’s theme will be ‘Christmas is Coming,’ and that’s the feeling and atmosphere we want to convey during the camp,” Carroll said. “The last evening will showcase a closing banquet and entertainment. We want attendees to enjoy the camp and, at the same time, be exposed to a lot of practical, high-quality information they can apply in their own lives.”
Carroll said program opportunities will include hands-on learning and educational sessions. Educational programs will cover topics related to cooking, finance, crafts, healthy living and more.
“The facility’s amenities are a big part of what makes this camp fun,” he said. “We have an array of both indoor and outdoor activity areas, including lighted tennis courts, horseshoes, billiards, volleyball and shuffleboard, as well as dominoes, cards and other table games. There’s something to meet just about any interest or activity level.”
The Texas 4-H Conference Center is 11 miles north of Brownwood on Texas Highway 279 and 1 mile east on Farm Road 3021. It is located on 78 acres of wooded hills and includes about a mile of the Lake Brownwood shoreline.
The registration fee includes all meals, refreshments and housing accommodations. The cost per person in the dorm is $220 or $260 for a semi-private room in the Leadership Lodge.
Reservations can be made by contacting Carroll at 325-784-5482 or emailing the center at Texas4-HCenter@ag.tamu.edu. Fees are due upon arrival.
