Texas Community Futures Forum set for April 13 in Austin

Forum will focus on grassroots consensus building

AUSTIN – The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and the Travis County Extension Leadership Advisory Board will hold the Texas Community Futures Forum from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. April 13 on the first floor of the Travis County Hall of Government, 700 Lavaca St., Austin.

Daphne Richards, interim AgriLife Extension director for Travis County, said the forum is being held to assist local AgriLife Extension agents and the agency’s Leadership Advisory Board identify the most critical issues affecting local citizens.

“Extension has a rich history of providing educational programs that address the most critical issues in the county, specifically in program areas related to agriculture and natural resources, families and health, youth development and community development,” Richards said. “In order to make sure Extension programs being planned for the future are on target, Travis County residents are invited to participate in this grassroots, consensus-building forum.”

Richards said input from the local community is important toward shaping the agency’s focus for the next five years.

“We want to make sure we’re meeting the needs of Travis County residents,” Richards said.

She said the meeting should last less than the two hours scheduled, and refreshments will be served.

For more information or to RSVP, contact the AgriLife Extension office at 512-854-9600 or email Richards at drichards@ag.tamu.edu .
