TAYLOR – Due to potential heavy rainfall, the 52nd Stiles Farm Field Day June 16 will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Taylor, 2201 E. 4th St. in Taylor.
The event is sponsored by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. Cost is $10 for individuals wanting to receive three Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units.
Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. with classroom presentations beginning at 8:30 a.m. The following are topics and speakers:
– Management of new technology in cotton, Dr. Gaylon Morgan, AgriLife Extension state cotton specialist, College Station.
– Reducing planting populations in grain sorghum and source of phosphorous starter fertilizer, Dr. Ronnie Schnell, AgriLife Extension agronomist, College Station.
– Lessons learned in managing sugarcane aphids in grain sorghum, Dr. Allen Knutson, AgriLife Extension entomologist, Dallas.
– Soil profile and benefits of strip till in the Blacklands, Dr. Tony Provin, AgriLife Extension soil chemist, College Station.
The noon program will feature scholarship presentations and a catered lunch. The afternoon program will feature a presentation on development and management of aquaponics facilities by Joe Schram, owner and operator of JoLi Farms.
Weather permitting, equipment demonstrations will be held at the Stiles Farm Foundation, 5700 Farm-to-Market Road 1063, near the intersection of U.S. Highway 79, 1 mile east of Thrall.
