AMARILLO – “Back to Basics: Medicare,” part of the monthly military caregiving professional development webinar series offered through the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service’s Military Program, will be at 10 a.m. Jan. 27.
The event is free and open to all who may be interested, but registration is required, said Andy Crocker, principal investigator and AgriLife Extension gerontology and health program specialist in Amarillo.
The webinars provide professional development and interactive resources for those who may not be able to leave their homes for training, Crocker said.
The Military Families Learning Network will provide continuing education credit from the National Association of Social Workers to credentialed participants and certificates of completion for those interested in receiving training hours.
Rachel Brauner, co-principal investigator and program coordinator with AgriLife Extension’s Military Program in College Station, said the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services is the largest health payer in the U.S., covering almost 90 million Americans.
Medicare, the federal health insurance program for adults over age 65 and other qualified individuals, accounts for more than 48 million of those Americans through expenditures of more than $545 billion.
But there are so many questions surrounding the services, Brauner said.
What is Medicare? How does it work? What should military-helping professionals and caregivers know about the program?
This session will provide a broad overview of the Medicare program’s Parts A and B as well as introduce the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid National Training Program as a resource for further training and information, she said.
