ELDORADO – A multi-county Livestock and Wildlife Management Workshop and Ranch Tour is slated for Oct. 27 in Eldorado.

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service program will start with registration at 8:30 a.m. followed by the program from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The morning session will be at the Schleicher County Civic Center, located on U.S. Highway 277 a mile south of Eldorado. The afternoon tour will be on N&K Ranches.

“We’ve had a really good year from a rainfall standpoint, especially compared to some we’ve had lately, so the goal of the day will be to build upon our current momentum to properly manage into the future,” said Tait Cooper, AgriLife Extension agent in Schleicher County. “I think this program will be very beneficial to producers in many of our surrounding counties.”

The morning workshop topics will include an explanation of the Veterinary Feed Directive, livestock market updates and futures, and predation on livestock and wildlife.

The afternoon ranch tour will include on-site discussions about plant identification, brush management and the benefits of prescribed fire.

Three Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units, two integrated pest management and one general, will be offered.

Individual preregistration is $20 by Oct. 21 and $25 thereafter. For more information and to preregister, call the AgriLife Extension office in Schleicher County at 325-853-2132.

The program is being conducted by the AgriLife Extension offices in Schleicher, Sutton, Menard and Irion counties.
