Concho Valley Cotton Conference set for March 7 in San Angelo

SAN ANGELO – While many area cotton producers still have their hands full bringing in their 2016 crop, organizers of the Concho Valley Cotton Conference urge them to take a moment to pencil in March 7 on their calendar.

That’s the day set for this year’s conference, said Josh Blanek, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service agent in Tom Green County. AgriLife Extension and the Southern Rolling Plains Cotton Growers Association partner every other year to bring the long-running conference to San Angelo’s McNease Convention Center, 500 Rio Concho Drive. The program will run from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

“This is a very busy time for all of us,” Blanek said. “What with stock show season upon us and many trying to get the cotton harvest delayed by wet weather wrapped up, it’s easy for time to slip by. So take a minute now to mark your calendar. Most all our area cotton farmers are familiar with this  event, which also includes the annual meeting of the association, so they know it’s the top program to ready them for the coming season. Even so, since it’s only every other year, it’s easy to forget just when it is, so make a note now.”

Blanek said finishing touches are being made to the agenda, and there are some vendor booth spaces still available. Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units will be offered, and the number and categories will be determined once the final agenda is confirmed in the coming weeks.

The cotton conference is free for those who RSVP by March 1, but will be $20 thereafter and at the door. Lunch is included.
