SAN ANGELO – The Concho Valley Master Gardeners’ annual plant sale is scheduled from 8 a.m.-noon, April 7 at the Tom Green 4-H Center, located at 3168 N. U.S. Highway 67, San Angelo.
“We’ll have lots to offer, but buyers better arrive closer to 8 a.m. than noon, because this is a very popular event and when everything is sold, we’re done,” said Allison Watkins, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service horticulture agent in Tom Green County who coordinates the sale.
“Gardening can be very challenging in West Texas, and good plant selection often is the difference between success and failure. The Master Gardeners will be offering some great plants that can handle the conditions of the Concho Valley.”
Though the plants are tough, Watkins said that doesn’t mean they are unattractive. She said there will be many beautiful and interesting plants available at good prices.
“All the plants are locally propagated and grown by the Master Gardeners. There will be many kinds to choose from, including annuals, perennials, trees, vines, herbs, vegetables and hanging baskets,” she said.
The Concho Valley Master Gardeners are a non-profit organization affiliated with AgriLife Extension. Watkins said proceeds from the plant sale will benefit local educational efforts on landscaping, gardening and water conservation.
The Lonestar 4-H club also will be onsite selling breakfast burritos, coffee and juice as a fundraiser to benefit the Children’s Advocacy Center.
For more information, contact the AgriLife Extension office in Tom Green County at 325-659-6528. Watkins said payment for the plants will be limited to cash or check only.
